What is Beliar's claw?

Beliar's claw is an old relict and an useful weapon as well. You can get it if you kill the final enemy of the Add On, Raven. He either wears it or let it fall.

However, a mage can never use the weapon; this is reserved for the city guards/paladins und mercenaries/dragon hunters. But mages get something in return for this drawback: Special beliar runes which are only available to mages.

But at first the weapon is useless for you. You have to consecrate it on a beliar shrine. The consecration is very simple, just put yourself in front of a beliar shrine and then use the appearing dialog option "Beliar's Claw upgrade". Additionally you can get gold for attributes by praying, but this is irrelevant here.

Consequences for mercenaries/dragon hunters and city guards/paladins

If you've got a level of between 1 and 10 while consecrating, you get beliar's claw at level 1. Totally there are 20 levels that the weapon can gain. For two level ups of the hero one weapon improvement is possible, naturally only, if you pray. You can also pray after e.g. 6 ascended level. Then the claw raises 3 levels at once. The claw can reach the 20th level when the hero is at level 47.

The disadvantage of improving the weapon are the "costs". Every improvement costs 5 hitpoints (perm.). The claw can be either an one-handed or a two-handed weapon? What the claw is going to be depends on the talent that you control better. You can change the kind of the weapon after every improvement, if you've changed your one-hand or two-hand talent in the meantime. But this is no longer possible if you've gained the maximum level. There is no minimum strength so everyone can wear beliar's claw.

What about the extra damage?

The chance of extra damage is 12% on level 1 and raises by 2% per improvement till it's up to 50%. Extra damage means that 100 hitpoints are taken from the enemy, unrelated to his protection values.

Consequences for mages

Mage only can get the rune. After the first time praying on a beliar shrine the weapon disappears from the inventory. You can get the following runes:

  • Circle 1: Root
  • Circle 2: Energy Steal.
  • Circle 3: Create Watcher, Beliar's Rage
  • Circle 4: Insect Swarm, Create Zombie
  • Circle 5: Scream Of The Deads.

You can just carry one beliar rune at one time, so these runes differ from water and fire mage runes which can be collected. If you want a new beliar rune, you have to go to a beliar shrine and exchange the old rune for a new one. If a mage wants to exchange his rune with one of a higher circle, he looses 5 hitpoints per circle permanently. However, if he exchanges his rune for one of the same circle, that doesn't happen.

Second alternative

If you don't want to keep beliar's claw you can give it to Saturas and you'll get 2000 experience points.
