As RPGWatch reports, Spellbound will present Arcania, wich is still under development, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). This event takes place from March 9 until March 13 in San Francisco. The source for this is a press release from the Trinigy GmbH. Trinigy is the developer of the Vision Engine, wich is used as the game engine for Arcania: A Gothic Tale.
From the press release:
Spellbound Presentations – Germany’s veteran studio Spellbound Entertainment will also reveal how the flexibility of the Vision Engine produced superb visuals in the seamless streaming open world environment of their Fantasy RPG title Arcania – A Gothic Tale. The title, which is set to release on PC and Xbox360, is the seventh Spellbound title to use Vision Engine. This is the first time Spellbound has shown this title publicly.

Our collegues from the german Arcania blog have discovered three new screenshots on the website of Simul.
On the first screenshot we see the hero looking out on the sea.
On the second one we get a view from a fort on a mountainous landscape rich in trees.
The third picture shows the hero on a beach in conversation with someone who resembles a well-known figure from the previous Gothic games: Diego!

After a long period of silence there is a new sign of life from The Cleaved Maiden: Murdra gets involved into the preperations of the resistance against the Myrtanian conquest. A landing of the Myrtanians near the Cleaved Maiden is imminent.
But Murdra has completely different problems. Because of an old friend she is reminded of Belgors death.

| [Official] Spellbound chooses Simul Weather and releases new screens |

After a long time of suspense, we have some news from Spellbound alongside several new screenshots, fresh from the devs.
In an article that was posted on Simul's software technology site yesterday, Spellbound announces their choice of using the Simul Weather SDK for generating Volumetric weather effects for Arcania. The award-winning and low resource consuming technology will allow the creation of "clouds that grow and change in real time".
“ArcaniA –A Gothic Tale will be a new milestone in the history of interactive role playing games. For this reason, we dedicated ourselves to only use high-quality middleware and cutting edge techniques for ArcaniA. Our commitment to make ArcaniA an AAA game is still upright and is reflected in choosing only state-of-the-art technologies. “, says Clemens Schneidhofer, PR Coordinator at JoWooD.
In addition to that, Spellbound has released several screenshots so that we can appreciate the quality of their new tool.

Today JoWooD released a new screenshot from Arcania. One point of interest is the mage robe, wich the player character wears. According to the pictures file name, it seems to be a Beliar mage robe.
The information on the next story from the Cleaved Maiden is, that it is delayed. The reason is, that the translation of the story is still work in process.

| [Article] Arcania - Information on the Project Status |

During the past days some interesting information regarding the project status of Arcania found its way to the community. Dynamedion announced, that they completed the soundtrack for the game. As the guys from the Arcania-Blog discovered, the localisation and development studio T57 stated on their homepage, that they accomplished the localisation of the last chapter of Arcania. On their Hall of Fame subpage the scope of work is mentioned: Translation from German to English.
The cooperation with Dynamedion was planned long ago, but the information on the cooperation with T57 is a little bit surprising. Even more surprising is the status, or rather the completion of the respective work. It is somewhat strange why such really concrete information is not published by the games officials.
Anyway, with the completion of the localisation ist is clear, that quests and dialogs where finished a while ago.

This week, we have yet another review, this time from XboxMessiah, stylised into a Q&A. It's nice to see that for once, we don't get to read as much about the amazing rain effect (although, it is mentioned of course), but instead more emphasis is put on the atmosphere and story. Sounds like a good start, no? But wait, they mention about points distribution on level up, and that you can't go back to an area once you've "finished" it. Old news or a fresh change? Read on to find out.

RPGWatch has a preview on Arcania – A Gothic Tale from the GamesCom 2009. As stated previously in the Arcania Producer Q&A, Spellbound will have a beta version of the first fifth of the game in September. According to the preview, also the player sessions to test the first part of the game will start in September. The parts will be something like chapters. Also there will be a tutorial area. When one chapter is finished, it is impossible to go back.
A lot of things where not implemented in the review version shown at the GamesCom, so one couldn't see that much besides the graphics. After all this version was similar to the one shown at the E3. It is said that a newer version exists, but it wasn't shown at the GamesCom 2009.
Every object in Arcania is created by hand and there are no randomly generated areas and dungeons. Combat will be challenging but there will also be options to avoid fighting. There are some words about the PC and console versions, regarding the controls and the user interface. The text also contains a little spoiler about the start of the game.
