[Article] Will there be another Gothic? Interview with Björn Pankratz.
18.02.2012 um 11:38
Ever since it became clear that Piranha bytes got the rights to the Gothic franchise back, the game developer has not made any statement suggesting that they will make another Gothic.
This silence has been interpretated by some fans as a lack of enthusiasm from Piranha bytes for making another Gothic game.
GameBanshee has now published an interview with Björn Pankratz from Piranha Bytes. The main topic is Risen 2 of course. But Björn also got a few questions about the future of Gothic.
GB: You've stated previously that once Risen 2 is finished, you'll be in a position to return to the Gothic franchise. Can you elaborate on that? Does the acquisition of JoWooD by Nordic Games impact when the Gothic franchise will open up to you again?
BP: The Gothic brand still belongs to us, so we are free to develop another edition. There is no new Gothic game planned at the moment though.
GB: Are you confident that there will be another Piranha Bytes-developed Gothic title? And if so, what does that mean for the future of the Risen franchise?
BP: What the future brings will be decided one project at a time.
This probabaly means that a serious internal discussion on a Gothic sequel will not be started before Risen 2 has been completed and its success evaluated.

Right now the JoWooD websites and forums where shut down. During the next weeks new websites will be created and launched. As explained in the press release, all old forum threads and data files will be included in the re-launch.
If this new development incdreases the chance for the release of the already finished Arcania add-on is unknown.

[Article] JoWood's Stefan Berger on the rights to Gothic
27.05.2011 um 19:40
PC Games held an interview with Stefan Berger, manager from JoWood. They also asked him about the Gothic-rights:
PC Games: According to Piranha Bytes the brand Gothic will soon be returned to the studio. Can you confirm this?
Stefan Berger: There are contracts, which have their validity, that the company JoWood can publish Gothic 4 plus an addon, and that existing products can be kept on the market within a certain time span. This contract will certainly be kept, possibly even by a new partner, who will buy the assets (brand, software, etc). A Gothic 5 and further versions will belong to the developer Piranha Bytes. This however was agreed upon already some years ago, so nothing new comes out of the bankruptcy of JoWood. Until recently, this theme was simply not brought up and elaborated upon.
[Article] JoWood to be sold until june at the latest
08.05.2011 um 20:13
The insolvency administrator of the game publisher JoWood hopes to sell the whole company in one piece until the end of june.
"We are on it, searching for options. Probably it will come to a sale of the company as a whole, which is the goal", Helmut Platzgummer told the Austrian Press Agency (APA) on thursday. However, there are no parties with a concrete interest at the moment.
JoWood, publisher of the Gothic series, Arcania and other games has not survived. After negotiations with potential investors turned out to be unsuccessful, the company has withdrawn its application for the arrangement of a recapitalization plan.
As a consequence, JoWood will now face bankruptcy proceedings.
